Chiropractic Spinal Manipulation reduces 45% lower chance of additional low back surgery.

The latest study found that adults who received "chiropractic spinal manipulation(CSM)" for ongoing Sciatica after low back disc surgery (discectomy) were almost half as likely to undergo an additional low surgery over the next 2 years, compared to those receiving usual medical care.

The study, published in BMC Musculoskeletal Disorders records from 100 million US patients. We looked at 756 adults who had sciatica and lumbar disc surgery at least 1 year prior. One cohort received CSM while the other received usual medical care. We matched cohorts to make them similar according to age and other characteristics.

Those receiving Chiropractic Spinal Manipulation had a 45% lower chance of undergoing additional low back surgery over the following 2 years compared to the usual care cohort.

This is the largest study to date to examine whether CSM is associated with a reduction in repeat back operations.
